Thank you, thank you, thank you. I found a different video that claimed to show how a gas spring worked but ONLY showed applications. I was aware that hydraulic cylinders had different areas on opposite sides of the piston meaning that opening they had more force than closing but did not think about how that would work with a gas spring.

All my life I've wondered, "why did we learn triganometry in school, I'll never use this in the real world"? Who'd have thought I'd need it to keep my toolbox lid up?? Now I wished I'd listened more in class.....

Very glad you produced this valuable video. It provides a thorough explanation of the trigonometry and calculations behind the analysis without divulging too much info as to give away the process yet all the necessary info is there. Ya, just gotta pay attention! I think that creating the spreadsheet is left as an exercise for the student to enhance their comprehension. Title typo in video at key-frame 0:00 - missing 2nd L in CALCUATION.

I think clarification on the horizontal vectors for the normal bending for each of the micro units would help; since, the acting force comes from above as the normal stress. Thanks.😊

Interesting, in 1980, in one of our first EE classes, we programmed an assembly language street light controller including walk button, on early z80 microcomputers with hexadecimal keypad and punch tape input and output was an eight 7-segment display. We ran our programs by inputting tape, but I don't remember where we edited our code to produce the tape. Maybe there was crt editor on a PDP-11, although we often made ibm punch cards might have used those to output on tape. There was a huge time penalty for code errors, we had to re-output our tape, maybe change labs to run again...

F=PxA. Algebra calls for dividing both sides of the equasion by F, leaving PxA/F/ The F cancles out if divided into F on the left side of the equasion. This IF Algebra causes a fight to break out with the Electricians since 1900. Coverting to business math does not help. This same relationship mathematically cannot be pondered unless they have thoughts that are not going to cause harm to themselves or others. E=IxR can cause death to Electricians.

Hi, I think there is some wrong input in the excel cells for the load calculation. there is some mis match value with the manual calculation for both bearings. When calculating manually, load on bearing By= 300*6/3 = 600 but in the excel cell you put this for bearing Ay. So which is correct result? excel cell or manually calculated? Thanks.
